FOCUSING ON CHILDREN WITH
DISABILITIES AS UNIQUE INDIVIDUALS
This unit is
designed for a special education first grade classroom. The children will be learning about
themselves as well as the other kids in the class. The lesson will be a collaborative
effort. After the book is created it
will be posted to the web.
The students
will have to bring in pictures of themselves, three of their favorite things
and will be asked a series of questions, inquiring about their likes and
dislikes. After each child has these
things, each day of the week the class will take turns discussing their items,
until all of the students had a turn.
This will give them each the opportunity to present and to get to know
each other better.

their story as a group.
·
The instructor
can write it out on the blackboard, or have each child write a sentence.
·
The class will be
told to go home and think about what they may want the middle and ending of the
story to be about. “What kind of problem
should they create? And how do they want to solve it?”
·
The teacher will
pass around the beginning of the story, typed.
Each child can draw something connected to the story on the page.
