Subject:  Writing/Social Studies

Topic:  Webquest 5th Grade

Objectives:  The student will use the writing research process to make the writing activities clear for the intended audience, as evidenced by the capacity to focus on the topic with adequate supporting ideas or examples. 

Procedures:  The student will use this Webquest to research information on The American Civil War.  The student will write a diary about daily life for a soldier fighting in the American Civil War.  The student will research at least 2 major battles of the war to be included in the diary.

Evaluation:

Before:  The students will have already been instructed on the use of a Webquest.

During:  The teacher will monitor the research procedures.  The students will take notes during their task of completing this assignment.  The students will use these notes to refer to while composing their diaries.  The students will compose the written assignment using Microsoft Word.  The students will save all work to a disk before printing the assignment.  The students will use printers in the computer lab.

After:  The students will have printed their diaries and will turn these in to the teacher for grading.

Materials:  The students will have the use of the school computer lab.  The students will have paper and pencils to make notes on their topics.  The students will have printers available to print the final assignment.
