You will probably want to do a few other things with the computer, like:  What if you swipe the wrong student's library card?  What now?

Enter .q  ("dot" q), or the short cut on the function keys with a Q on it.

That is one of the most useful keys on the keyboard, as far as the circulation desk goes.

What if a student wants to know what books they have checked out?  The books are not listed on the screen to help protect patron privacy, but we don't need to protect them from themselves . . . well, anyway.  If the student wants to know what is on their card, type .l ("dot l").  That is a lower case L like in the word "like".

However the computer is not going to make it easy, it now wants a password. Here is the secret word "temp". That will get you the list.  Shhh.  Please keep it a secret, we have class-ified information, you know (sorry about that).

You can even search for a book by using a .s ("dot" s), but that will bring up all the books in the district, so sometimes it is more complicated than using the regular searching terminals.

There are a few other "dot" things we do with the computer, but that is probably enough to get you started.  You can always ask us.

To help you remember about our dotty system, why don't you do the dot quiz?  Which word goes with which command?  Drag the item on the right beside the correct item on the left, then click on "Check" to check your answers.  Click on this link to take you to the quiz.
