Creating a New Society
Even though Old Major gave them the idea for rebellion, the
animals’ takeover is almost spontaneous.
They simply react to being beaten and starved, and subsequently chase
the humans off of Manor Farm.
Afterwards, they have the difficult task of organizing their new animal
society. They must make rules, establish
a work schedule, and work together to keep their farm running smoothly.
Put yourself in that position. You have just overthrown your cruel leaders
and must create your own new society.
You also must establish rules and work roles for your members. Complete the table below to organize your ideas.

Part II: Making a Name and Creating a Flag
The animals change the name of
“Manor Farm” to “Animal Farm” to show that they are in control. They also create the flag (shown below). The green background symbolizes the fields
they live in, while the hoof and horn symbolizes that the animals run the farm.
Create an original name and
flag for your society. Be sure that the
symbols and colors you use have a clear connection to the society you have
planned. Be prepared to share your ideas
with the class.
