Instructional Goal: 

Use Gradekeeper software to manage an on-going computerized grade book. 

Terminal Objective: 

Given a computer running the Windows XP operating system with the Gradekeeper software installed, the learners will create computerized versions of their grade books, using names and numbers from their own classroom grades.  In the creation of their computerized grade books, the learners will change settings and menu options to produce a computerized grade book that reflects school grading policy and the teacher’s grading preferences.

Entry Skills Objective 1: 

Given a computer running the Windows XP operating system and given a page containing three sentences, the learner will turn the computer on, open the Microsoft Word program, and demonstrate proficiency in the use of the keyboard by re-typing the three sentences exactly, correcting any errors. 

 

 

Entry Skills Objective 2: 

Given a computer running the Windows XP operating system with Microsoft Word open and with three sentences typed by the learner, the learner will then use the mouse and the pull down menu to name, print, and save the file.

 

 

Entry Skills Objective 3: 

Given a computer running the Windows XP operating system and a data page containing information in 10 rows and 4 columns, the learner will open the Microsoft Excel program, and demonstrate spread sheet proficiency by entering the data from the provided sheet into a new file exactly, correcting any errors.

Main Objective 1:

Given a computer running the Windows XP operating system with the Gradekeeper software installed and open, the learners will create a computerized class list, using names and student numbers from their own classroom grades, without error.

 

 

Subordinate Objective 1.1:

Given a computer running the Windows XP operating system with the Gradekeeper software installed and open, the learners will enter the names of each student from a single class, with last name, followed by a comma and the first name, without error.

 

Subordinate Objective 1.2:

Given a computer running the Windows XP operating system with the Gradekeeper software installed and open, the learners will use the Menu and select the option to Show Names and IDs.

 

Subordinate Objective 1.3:

Given a computer running the Windows XP operating system with the Gradekeeper software installed and open, the learners will enter the each corresponding student number beside the name of each student from a single class, without error.

 

Subordinate Objective 1.4:

Given a computer running the Windows XP operating system with the Gradekeeper software installed and open, the learners will use the File drop down menu to save their files.

Main Step in Instructional Goal:

 2.  Set grade book preferences to match

      school grading policies.

 

 

Subordinate Skills

2.1  In Gradebook Options, change each grading period's start & end dates to match the school calendar.

 

 

 

 

2.2  Change attendance codes to match the

        school's codes.

 

 

 

 

 

 

            2.3  Change the percentages for each letter grade to

                    match the school's grading policy.

                  

 

 

 

Main Objective 2:

Given a computer running the Windows XP operating system with the Gradekeeper software installed and open and using a school calendar and grading procedures booklet, the learners will change options and preferences in the program to match the grading standards of the school district.

 

 

Subordinate Objective 2.1:

Given a computer running the Windows XP operating system with the Gradekeeper software installed and open, using the Menu to open Gradebook Options, the learner will change the start and end dates of each grading period to match the provided school calendar.

 

Subordinate Objective 2.2:

Using the attendance page of the grading procedures booklet, and given a computer running the Windows XP operating system with the Gradekeeper software installed and open and the Gradebook Options menu open, the learner will select the Attendance tab and will correctly change the attendance codes to match the school’s codes.

 

Subordinate Objective 2.3:

Using the attendance page of the grading procedures booklet, and given a computer running the Windows XP operating system with the Gradekeeper software installed and open and the Gradebook Options menu open, the learner will select the Letter Grades tab, and change the percentages for each letter grade to match the school's grading policy.

 

Main Step in Instructional Goal:

3.  Establish categories of student work.

 

 

Subordinate Skills

3.1  Form a list of the different types of student work.

 

 

 

3.2  Decide which categories of student work will be

       assigned during the coming school year.

 

 

 

3.3    Type in the chosen categories of work.

 

 

 

 

Main Objective 3:

Given a computer running the Windows XP operating system with the Gradekeeper software installed and open, the learner will change at least six categories of student work to match the type of work assigned.

 

 

Subordinate Objective 3.1:

Given a paper and pencil, the learner will make a list of ten possible categories of student work.

 

Subordinate Objective 3.2:

Given a paper and pencil and the list of categories of student work, the learner will place a checkmark next to the kinds of work that the learner assigns in his/her class.

 

Subordinate Objective 3.3:

Given a computer running the Windows XP operating system with the Gradekeeper software installed and open and the checkmarked list of work that will be assigned in the coming school year, the learner will open Gradebook Options, choose the Categories tab and enter the checked items exactly into the boxes in the program.

Will you weigh grades? 

If “yes,” go through 4.1a, b, and c.  If “no,” go to 4.2.

 

 

 

            4.1a  Decide what categories of work will be weighted.

 

 

 

 

 

 

            4.1b  Decide how much each category will be weighted.

 

 

 

 

 

 

            4.1c  Change boxes to match decisions.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

4.2    Select the grading tab and adjust the final exam percentage to match school policies.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Will you drop the lowest score from any categories of work?

If “yes,” do 4.3.  If “no,” go directly to 4.4.

4.3    Select the category or categories of work that will have the lowest score dropped.

 

 

 

 

4.4  Save file.

 

 

 Main Objective 4:

Given a computer running the Windows XP operating system with the Gradekeeper software installed and open, the learner will change preferences in the Menu options to match his/her classroom grading procedures, through adjusting category weights, dropping lowest scores from categories, and setting the value of final examinations.

 

 

Subordinate Objective 4.1:

The learner will decide whether or not to weigh grades.  Given that the learner chooses not to weigh grades, the learner will move to subordinate objective 4.2.  Given that the learner does choose to weigh grades,  s/he will move through steps 4.1a, 4.1b, 4.1c before moving on to subordinate objective 4.2.

 

Subordinate Objective 4.1a:

Given a computer running the Windows XP operating system with the Gradekeeper software installed and open and given that the learner has decided to weigh grades, the learner will select from their category list from step 3.1 which categories of work s/he wants to weigh.

 

Subordinate Objective 4.1b:

Given a computer running the Windows XP operating system with the Gradekeeper software installed and open and given that the learner has decided to weigh grades and has chosen the categories to be weighed, the learner will determine how much each is to be weighed.

 

Subordinate Objective 4.1c:

Given a computer running the Windows XP operating system with the Gradekeeper software installed and open and given that the learner has decided to weigh grades and by what amount, the learner will open the Gradebook Options menu, choose the Categories tab, and will type the percentage of grade weight into the corresponding boxes.

 

 

Subordinate Objective 4.2:

Using the grading procedures booklet, and given a computer running the Windows XP operating system with the Gradekeeper software installed and open and the Gradebook Options menu open, the learner will select the Grading tab, and change the percentage for the final exam to match the school's grading policy.

 

Subordinate Objective 4.3:

Given a computer running the Windows XP operating system with the Gradekeeper software installed and open and the Gradebook Options menu open and the Grading tab selected, the learner select the categories if any that s/he wants the lowest assignment score dropped from, then will click OK.

 

 

Subordinate Objective 4.4:

Given a computer running the Windows XP operating system with the Gradekeeper software installed and open, the learners will use the File drop down menu to save their files.

Main Step in Instructional Goal:

5. Enter grades.

 

 

 

 

Subordinate Skills

5.1   Enter the name of the assignment.

 

 

 

5.2   Decide what category of work the assignment falls under.  Enter the category.

 

 

 

5.3   Enter the possible points for the assignment.

 

 

 

5.4   Fill the column with the students' scores.

 

 

 

 

 

Do you have more assignments to enter? 

If “yes,” go back to 5.1.  If “no,” go on to 5.5.

 

 

 

 

5.5  Save file.

 

 

Main Objective 5:

Given a computer running the Windows XP operating system with the Gradekeeper software installed and open, the learners will create a computerized grade book, by entering the names and categories of all of the assignments and will enter the assignment scores for each student, without error.

 

Subordinate Objective 5.1:

Given a computer running the Windows XP operating system with the Gradekeeper software installed and open, the learners will enter the name of the assignment, without error.

 

Subordinate Objective 5.2:

Given a computer running the Windows XP operating system with the Gradekeeper software installed and open, the learners will enter the category of work for the assignment, without error.

 

Subordinate Objective 5.3:

Given a computer running the Windows XP operating system with the Gradekeeper software installed and open, the learners will enter the possible points for the assignment, without error.

 

Subordinate Objective 5.4:

Given a computer running the Windows XP operating system with the Gradekeeper software installed and open, the learners will enter the scores for each student on the assignment, without error.

 

Subordinate Objective 5.4a:

Given a computer running the Windows XP operating system with the Gradekeeper software installed and open, the learners will enter the assignment information and scores, following steps 5.1 through 5.4 for the remaining assignments.  This will be done for all of the remaining un-entered assignments, without error.

 

Subordinate Objective 5.5:

Given a computer running the Windows XP operating system with the Gradekeeper software installed and open, the learners will use the File drop down menu to save their files.

6.  Generate Reports

           6.1  Print the grade book page.

 

 

 

           6.2  Under reports, select Class Grades report and print.

 

 

 

 

 

           6.3  In reports, select Student Scores report and print.

 

 

 

 

 

           6.4  Under reports, select a Missing Assignments

                   report and print.

 

Main Objective 6:

Given a computer running the Windows XP operating system with the Gradekeeper software installed and open, the learners will use the Reports drop down menu to generate reports and print files.

 

Subordinate Objective 6.1:

Given a computer running the Windows XP operating system with the Gradekeeper software installed and open, the learners will use the File drop down menu to print their files.

 

Subordinate Objective 6.2:

Given a computer running the Windows XP operating system with the Gradekeeper software installed and open, the learners will use the Reports drop down menu to open a Class Grades Report and will print the report.

 

Subordinate Objective 6.3:

Given a computer running the Windows XP operating system with the Gradekeeper software installed and open, the learners will use the Reports drop down menu to open a Student Scores Report and will print the report.

 

Subordinate Objective 6.4:

Given a computer running the Windows XP operating system with the Gradekeeper software installed and open, the learners will use the Reports drop down menu to open a Missing Assignments Report and will print the report.
