The Process - Step
1
Research

|

|
In order to make your decision about where
you and your partner will be stationed, you will need to follow some
important steps.
Step 1:
 |
After choosing a partner, decide who will be
researching which countries. One of you must learn more about
the West Bank and Afghanistan. While the other partner will research Iraq
and Sudan. |
 |
We will be in the library for two days, so spend
one day researching each country. Make sure to read all of the
links provided. When you find repetitious information, skim until
you see new facts presented. |
 |
If either of you do not finish reading all
of the sites listed for your countries, then this will be your homework on
Tuesday and Wednesday nights. If you need a pass to use the library
during study hall, please ask. |
 |
If either of you finish reading all of
the sites listed for your countries, then look up additional information about
what's happening in those countries today. This would be the only
time where you may use other web sites. |
 |
While you read, you will want to take notes
IN YOUR OWN WORDS.
You must take notes so that you can teach what you've learned to your
partner later on. Also, these will be collected and graded. |
 |
What should you be taking notes on? Think
about what you would want to know before you went to live somewhere new
for six months. For example, you should find out how dangerous the
area is and whether or not there's electricity. There's a lot more
that you should find out before you decide a country to live in. |
 |
Is there anything else to take notes on?
YES. Remember eventually, you and your partner will need to convince
your editors that the location you've selected is important. So
while you read, you should also take notes on what's going on in that
country. Especially since you'll need to argue why Americans need to
know about that region. For example, international disputes,
conditions of war, and environmental issues would be important topics to
read carefully about and take notes on. |
 |
All the readings and notes need to be done for
by the start of Thursday's class. You may need to read for homework if you don't use
class time wisely. On Thursday, we move on to Step 2. |
