This page will give you instruction in how to create a           Power Point Presentation for this assignment.

Step One - On a PC, go to the "Start" menu in the bottom left corner.  Click on the box until it opens.  Move the cursor to "All Programs."  When the long list of programs appears, drag the mouse over to "Microsoft PowerPoint" and click on it.  When the following screen appears, click in the circle for "Blank Presentation" and then hit "Ok."

Step Two - Once you have started a blank presentation, the following screen should appear.  Go to the upper right corner and click on "Common Tasks."

Step Three -  Once you've clicked on "Common Tasks," then choose "Apply Design Template."  The screen below should appear.  In the box in the middle of the page ,it shows all of the designs you can choose for the slides in your presentation.  Browse through the list and look at the preview samples on the right.  Once you find a design that you like, click on "Apply."  This will create a standard background, style, and color for all of your slides.  Make sure to save your presentation now.  Go to "File;"  choose "Save As."   Make sure to name your file and save it to your floppy disk, NOT to the hard drive at home or at the computer lab.  To make sure you save to the right location, make sure the top box says "Save in: 3 1/2 Floppy (A:)."   If it does not say this, click on the downward arrow at the right of the "Save in" box, and hold it down.  Then you can choose your disk and name your file.

Step Four - You will need to decide how each slide will visually look.  This will depend on the content you have chosen for the slide, and whether or not you have a picture to go with the content.  Go back to "Common Tasks," hold it down, and choose "Slide Layout."  The following should appear.  The slide layout boxes that have plain horizontal lines indicate that you would write text into that box.  There are also layout boxes for graphs, flow charts, and images.  Most of you will want to choose the layouts for text, or for text and clip art, or text and photos.  Once you choose one, click on "Apply."  This will put the design onto the slide you're working on.  You will need to choose a slide layout each time that you create a new slide.

Step Five  -   To add text, just click inside of the boxes on the slide and start typing.  If you chose the layout design for text and clip art, then double-click on the box for the clip art.  When you do, the following screen will appear.  You can scan through these pictures.  Click on the one that you want to use and then hit "Ok."  This will paste the image into your slide.  Once the image is on the slide, you can increase or decrease the size of the image, by clicking on the corners.  Once arrows appear, it means you can pull the picture larger or decrease its size.

Step Six - If you would rather include an image that you found online, first make sure that you have stored the picture on the computer.  You may need to go back to the original web site that your image came from.  Right click on the image and choose "Save Picture As."  Let go; this will give you a box that allows you to save the image.  The best place to save it to would be "My Documents."

If you've already got pictures saved in "My Documents," then you follow the steps that you see below.  Go to "Insert," choose "Picture," drag the mouse over and let go on "From File."  Remember to look for the image in the place where you saved it.  Then click on the file for your image and hit "Insert."  The image will appear in the box.  You can then resize the image the same way that you changed the size of the clip art.

Step Seven - Once you are satisfied with the first slide.  Go to "Insert," and choose "New Slide."  Complete this step as many times as needed until you have filled your presentation with the necessary content.  Make sure that you consider the layout for each new slide.  Try to vary the layout of each slide.  SAVE AFTER EVERY NEW SLIDE THAT YOU CREATE!!!  Go to "File" and choose "Save."

Step Eight - Once your slide show is complete, you can view it by going to "View" and selecting "Slide Show."  This will begin your presentation.  You can move from slide to slide with the arrow keys or with a click of the mouse.  Hit the "Esc" button in the top left corner of the keyboard to go back to the program.  Again, save often!

Step Nine -  If you have time and wish to add extras to make the presentation more fun, you can go to "Slide Show" and choose "Slide Transition."  From here you can choose how one slide fades into another.  You can use pre-recorded sounds to mark the transition from one slide to another.  You can also import downloaded sound files into your presentation from this menu.   Play with these functions to make your slides more interesting.

Step Ten - Make sure to save your slide show.
